Eva Lalander (Hellon), Mats Grönmark (Burek V, Hellon), Henrik af Ugglas, Tommy Galento (Galento) och Robert Karlsson (Lee Marvelous) together equals Eve And The Last Waltz, who debuted 2003 with "Love Boat". What "Love Boat" sounds like I don´t know but "straight Up to the Sky" is a strange record that both fascinates and invite for resistance. Bands like Velvet Underground, Sonic Youth, Bob Dylan and Nicos do spring to mind when hearing this but it is doubtful whether they are influences or not.Any way Eva Lalander has a cool, decadent voice that I enjoy, andthe music is both ugly and beatuful, often at the same time. The songs and the way they are presented give you a bizarre and strange sensation. The songs are in one way straight but also warped at the same time and just the fact that the record ends with a six-minute march can make anyone scratch their head...But it works and it fits right in. It sounds old-fashioned and modern at the same time. Here lies an atmosphere of real oldcountry and New York rock but I can´t call it just one thing. Eve And The Last Waltz are simply an odd bird in the musical output of today. This CD won´t suit the taste of the masses, but myself I enjoy most parts of the content a lot.
