Voices you either grow to love or eternally hate Its creaky, witchy, and a bit creepy, even when smeared over indie and folk rock pieces, and the closest comparison is modern-day Marianne Faithfull. Eve and the Last Waltz´s third record probably will just fuel her own home fires, and may not spread further than her current base, but thats OK. Straight Up is an enjoyable release thats full of organic energy and Lalanders laments and observations, which, if you like her like I do, will keep sparking in your brain. Everyones Dancing has Lalander at her croakiest, with the chorus gaining steam and matching her energy, In Your Mind has some hooks built in with Lalander noting, “I see you´ve thrown your wings on the floor” ,Too Many Times Before sounds a bit influenced by the Kinks, and Marching In finishes the record as a hippie folk number decrying war and people entering into hopeless battles. Yeah, its a topic we´ve visited before, but she´s less heavy handed and more remorseful, which helps her skip the void of repetition. Brian Krasman
